Today I spent 10 hours working on a huge update, and I am very happy to announce that we will now be providing star maps with every portal purchase, free of charge. This update streamlines our products and aligns with my goal of making the agentic web available to as many people as possible. With integrated star maps as free artifacts, user engagement and retention will hopefully increase.
Along with this feature, I made many UX improvements throughout the platform. One of the most prominent changes I made is the redesign of the SPACE Levels cards. I changed these to look like billboards to improve the copy and the overall structure to look better. The new bigger outlined numbers designates which level is at the top right corner, and the new gradient trim at the top adds elegance to the card. I am excited to see the user interactions with the redesign as it was made directly from user feedback.
As I navigated these changes, I had a few bugs pop up that I wrestled with. A caching problem with the portals cover needed my immediate attention. I had to add a version query to the cover URL so that browsers would pull the new design instead of relying on an outdated cached cover. It took a bit of trial and error, but I succeeded in resolving the issue so that users will see the new full-canvas QR design.
The caching headers of the cover-star-map also posed a problem. The old settings caused older designs to hang around in users’ browsers and they experienced confusion as they toggled back-and-forth between designs. I reduced the cache TTL (time-to-live) from 24 hours to just 5 minutes so users will no longer become frustrated by older designs instead of newer iterations expected to be active.
I also did a lot of work on the star-map feature. The full-canvas QR background adds to the experience and looks a lot better than the corner tile. The star disc is now on top of the QR code, which gives a cool effect. It took some time to get right, but I’m happy with how it looks. I’m glad to see the vision I had for the star maps come to life.
I made some smaller UX changes today that can make a big difference in user experience. For example, I closed some gaps in the recent #names marquee, so it is more seamless. While some changes may seem insignificant, polishing the final product does help to make the overall project feel more complete and consistent.
I feel a sense of fulfillment when I think about what I have accomplished today. It is not easy to build the agentic web by myself, and I still need to rely on AI tools like Claude Code in VS Code to improve my workflow, even if the final say and implementation are up to me. This process can be difficult to go through alone, but the reward at the end is equally matched. Every feature I complete moves me closer to my goal of creating a one-man company valued at a billion dollars.
As I get ready to leave for the day, I have already set my sights on the next set of features and improvements I want to make. The potential in the agentic web is vast, and I am ready to keep expanding on what can be achieved. Today's changes are only the starting point, and I am excited to continue the journey and see how far I can go.
