We have been on holiday in Orkney (our first time visiting) this past week, taking in many of the archeological sites. First up, Brough of Birsay: a Pictish, Norse, and Christian settlement between 500 - 1200 AD. #broughofbirsay #orkney #vi
.@ [email protected] Timely, for my purposes! I was just reading nova’s review of carved in stone, a storyteller‘s guide to the Picts. Which is an RPG/academia collaboration book on the ancient picts. And it’s a gorgeous book.
What “picts” means
WikipediaThe Picts were a group of peoples in what is now Scotland north of the Firth of Forth, in the Early Middle Ages. Where they lived and details of their culture can be gleaned from early medieval texts and Pictish stones. The name Picti appears in written records as an exonym from the late third century AD. They are assumed to have been descendants of the Caledonii and other northern Iron Age tribes.
