If you're an iOS developer, you can create Offer Codes to set any price you want for your In-App Purchase or Subscription, totally different from the regular price. You can also change the price and length of trial periods. But up until now
Interesting. The Guardian sent me email(s... many of them) asking me to renew my subscription, which lapsed due to a canceled card. Their Top Number One Benefit is apparently that they will spam me for money less if I just give it to them.

What “subscriptions” means
Wiktionary · Wikipediasubscriptions
- nounAccess to a resource for a period of time, generally for payment.
The subscription business model is a business model in which a customer must pay a recurring price at regular intervals for access to a product or service. The model was pioneered by publishers of books and periodicals in the 17th century. It is particularly common now for digital products, which lend themselves more naturally toward a subscription model.
